Organizing the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Comstock Lode

This blog has already reported on the new Knowledge Center exhibit celebrating 150 years since the discovery of the Comstock Lode in Nevada. The Nevada News has also taken up the story of Comstock and what our Special Collections department is doing to both educate and commemorate.

Knowledge Center Wins PRO AV Spotlight Award

It’s official–UNR has itself an award-winning library. The Knowledge Center was awarded for “Best Education AV Project”, a national-level commendation and part of the PRO AV Spotlight Awards. This is in recognition of the 168-seat Wells Fargo Auditorium, featuring surround-sound, three-screen HD projection, and video capture and streaming, as well as our digital classrooms and, in general, the all-fiber HD distribution system.

Microsoft Surface Brings Cutting Edge Technology to Knowledge Center

The Knowledge Center has gotten some press recently on UNR’s Nevada News site for its pioneering work with the Microsoft Surface–described as “a giant, table-sized iPhone”–available, for the amusement and education of our customers, down on the @One level by the Dynamic Media Lab and in the second floor atrium by the Library Services desk. L-Cubed: A Collaborative Music & Arts Series

Wednesdays this fall, commencing on October 7, the UNR Department of Music and Department of Art will be jointly organizing a free, weekly music and art series called L-Cubed, and the UNR Libraries are happy to supply the venue. These lunchtime (noon through 1:00 p.m., BYO lunch) exhibitions and performances will take place in the Frank & Joan Randall Rotunda of the Knowledge Center and are slated to occur mostly-consecutively weekly through December 2.

What: A free, weekly BYO lunch music & art series open to the public

Where: Frank & Joan Randall Rotunda in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno

When: 7 (mostly consecutive) Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 p.m. (proposed dates: Oct. 7, 21,28/ Nov. 4, 18, 25 / Dec. 2)

Who: Showcasing the music and art of students/faculty at UNR.
A department of Music and a Department of Art collaboration designed by L-Cubed Series Director Stephanie Sant’Ambrolgio, with assistance from administrative assistance Vanessa Porter, Rose Sciaroni, and a curator from the Art Department.
Supported by The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno, in cooperation with the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center.

Why: To expose the UNR community and the general public to the beauty and power of great music and great art; to better acquaint the community with the vibrant creativity taking place at UNR.
